The new trend of "trashing the dress" has recently been brought to my attention, and I gotta tell ya, I just don't get it. Why would a bride spend months, maybe more, agonizing over the perfect dress, just to destroy it after the wedding? I've read that "the idea behind it is you are committed to your husband, you are not going to get married again and this is a symbol of committed you are going to be," but isn't that what the wedding bands are for? Besides, if you ever were to get married again, would you really wear the same dress anyway???
I, for one, wore my mother's wedding gown. If this trend were around back in the 70's, I may not have been able to do that, and it meant so much to her that I did wear it!
I'd love to hear your thoughts!!
Yey, for new blogs. Just wanted to chime in with my thoughts. "Trashing the dress" Doesn't necessarily mean you have to destroy it. That would be based on the bride and her personality. I prefer to call them Wear It Again Session because really you're just getting it a little more dirty before taking it to the cleaners. Perhaps a bride didn't hire a professional like CR Events to guide with their planning and give them a "REALITY" of their timeline for the wedding day is. Fall wedding, no first look and it gets dark quick. This is another opportunity to wear and rock that dress again with no pressure. It also means beautiful art for your walls. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhen put in that perspective, I can see the point. But when the brides are destroying then...I just don't get that. That would be something I would like to do if I ever got divorced! I'm just saying...
ReplyDeleteThanks for your 2 cents, Val! =)
