It's the Details That Count

Anyone who knows me knows that I hate to be pushy and force my services on anyone...BUT...I do like to EDUCATE and INFORM people. Mistakes are very easy to make when there are so many details involved, not to mention trying to go about your everyday life when planning a wedding.

This is an example that I encountered this week. For the sake of privacy to all parties, I will not use any names:

I have a client who hired me for day-of service only (no planning involved). She is getting married at a facility that is not your typical "wedding facility", meaning they booked the venue but they had to bring in a caterer, rental items, etc. This can add a lot more work for the couple and their families/bridal parties. Don't get me wrong, I love places like this! I got married at a venue where everything needed to be brought in separately, it was just a bit more work.

So, in speaking to the bride last night, she mentions that she is providing the beer and wine for the wedding, but she or the caterer did not mention bringing other beverages (soda, water, etc.). I think they each assumed the other was providing it, but it was never brought up in a conversation. A miscommunication, or lack of.

Please note that I am not meaning to offend anyone or disrespect my colleagues or clients (I actually got permission from the bride to use this as an example first). My point is to show another example of how things can be miscommunicated and a planner can help clear up any of those issues. Had I been involved in the planning process, I would have questioned this ahead of time. Had I gotten to the wedding and there was no water or soda, guess who would have been going to the store to buy some! LOL! There are just so many details and when you try to do it all yourself, something is bound to slip through the cracks.
