Who's NOT a Wedding Planner

OK, so I just want to put something out there:

Your friends are not wedding planners. Your mother is not a wedding planner. Your best friend's sister is not a wedding planner. Your aunt is not a wedding planner. Unless of course, they are actually professional wedding planners, they are NOT wedding planners. They cannot save you money by getting you discounts and deals with your vendors and venue. They don't know the general order of events of a wedding, therefor they are unable to create and implement an accurate timeline with everyone involved in your wedding. And they don't know how to compare contracts within vendors.

It's great to INCLUDE your friends and family in your wedding planning, but please do not rely on one of them as your designated wedding planner. Chances are, they don't actually know what they are doing and they're just in it for the fun of it. You might be having a blast, but you won't get the benefits of hiring a professional. You also don't want them working the day of your wedding. They should be enjoying the day with you and not setting up your decorations. Think about it, would you ask your cousin to be your photographer if they were not in fact a professional photographer. Same thing here. I know everyone is on a budget these days, which brings me to my next point...

Definitely do your homework and research wedding planners in your area. But don't just price shop. Compare what each planner will do for the price they are charging you. Check their reviews. Ask if they do this full time or as a side gig. How long have they been doing it? What are they offering you? Is it what you want/need? Be specific. It's nice to save money and "get a deal" with a service, but not if that means sacrificing quality.

Most importantly...HAVE FUN!

Happy planning!
