To Trash or Not to Trash?

The new trend of "trashing the dress" has recently been brought to my attention, and I gotta tell ya, I just don't get it. Why would a bride spend months, maybe more, agonizing over the perfect dress, just to destroy it after the wedding? I've read that "the idea behind it is you are committed to your husband, you are not going to get married again and this is a symbol of committed you are going to be," but isn't that what the wedding bands are for? Besides, if you ever were to get married again, would you really wear the same dress anyway???

I, for one, wore my mother's wedding gown. If this trend were around back in the 70's, I may not have been able to do that, and it meant so much to her that I did wear it!
