Registering for Wedding Gifts

Here's another great question from one of our Facebook friends:

If you're a bride to be who already has the dishes and pots and pans you need, what do you register for? Is it tacky to not register because you're basically forcing your guests to write you a check?

There are some great alternatives out there today if you don't want to be the bride to register for your typical houseware stuff. Lots of brides and grooms already live together and have everything they need for their home. Unless you're planning a major remodel, here are some alternatives:

Honeymoon: Why not register for your honeymoon? There are some great websites out there that can help you do this. Try honeyfund.com or honeymoonwishes.com to name just a few.

Vendors: If you are one of those couples who are paying for the majority of the wedding themselves (hats off to you!!) then asking for some help paying your vendors is a great way to go. Many photographers, spas, DJs, florists etc. now offer registries as a convenience to their clients. Be sure to ask about this when you are interviewing your vendors.

Charity: If there is a charity that is near and dear to your heart, there are websites that can help you register for donations instead of wedding gifts. Check out idofoundation.orgjustgive.org or changingthepresent.org. Some individual charity's websites also have something where you can setup a donation through a registry.

If none of the above suit you then there's nothing wrong with putting the word out through family that you don't really need anything and cash would be greatly appreciated. You can set up a registry through depositagift.com.

On a side not, registry information, no matter where you are registering, should NOT be included with the invitations. If you have a wedding website setup, this is the best place for this type of information.

Happy planning!

  1. thanks for the great tips!!!! this is some really useful information especially when you never want to be considered that "tacky bride". the idea of registering for a honeymoon is great especially if the majority of the cost for the wedding is falling on the bride and groom. cant wait to check back for other posts. your blog has been added to my favorites!
