Who Gets Invited to be in Your Bridal Party?

Once you've gotten engaged and the wedding planning begins, it's time to start thinking about who you would like to be in your bridal party. Some brides have dreamed of a HUGE bridal party since they were little girls and others just don't want the drama. So how do you choose without offending anyone?

Siblings: If you are close with your siblings, it's always a nice gesture to ask them to be a part of your bridal party. This goes for both bride and groom. However, if you're estranged from them or you're not particularly close, this could be awkward for everyone and you might want to move on.

Significant others of siblings: Unless you are extremely close to a sibling's significant other, you are in no way obligated to invite them to be in your wedding party. If anyone questions you on this, nicely explain that you are trying to keep the bridal party under X amount of people and if you invite one wife or girlfriend to be a bridesmaid, then you have to invite the rest.

Friends: It's a good idea to only ask friends that you have been friends with for a long time to be in your bridal party. If you just started becoming friends with a girl at work, it's probably not a good idea to ask her to be in your wedding. Who knows if you'll still even be that close in a year when the wedding date is set. Stick to close friends who you've known a while and know they're not going anywhere.

Children: Kids can add a certain cuteness to a bridal party, however, if you don't have flower girl and ring bearer-aged children that can fill these roles, don't sweat it. Plenty of bridal parties survive without them. Of if you have one but not the other, that's OK too.

Like I always say, it's YOUR day. Do what will make you happy. The last thing you want during your wedding planning...or WORSE...on your wedding DAY...is DRAMA. Eliminate it however you can.

Happy planning!
