Engagement Sessions

Although engagement photo sessions (I've also heard them referred to as "getting to know you sessions") have been around for a while, I have seen an increase in themes and very unique ideas in the photo shoots. Most of the photographers I know take the time to really get to know their couples' likes and dislikes and incorporate that into their pictures. They'll go pretty much anywhere within reason to accommodate them and what they like.

I think this is an important thing for photographers to do. They will be capturing such an emotional day on the day of your wedding and they should know more about you prior to the big day. This type of photo shoot also puts the couple at ease a bit more so that they are completely comfortable with their photographer on the wedding day. Many photographers will snap pictures of the couple that they didn't even know were being taken. An intimate moment is captured between the couple and when they see that, they become more relaxed on the day of the wedding. They see that not every picture has to be perfectly posed and that the best ones that capture the most emotion are candid and not at all posed.

Here are some of my favorites:

Paparazzi shoot by David Apuzzo Photography

Film Noir shoot by David Apuzzo Photography

Mohegan Sun shoot by Lifetiled

Central Park shoot by Studio1923

Fenway Park shoot by Candace Jeffrey Photography

So...my suggestion to you would be if you are offered an engagement/getting to know you photo session in your package, TAKE IT! If not...ASK for one! You'll be glad that you did, plus they are FUN!
