Do you want your DJ playing music or playing Wedding Coordinator?

This has been on my mind since last week. I attended an event last Thursday and had an interesting conversation with a DJ I had never met before. He was not the first vendor I have spoken to who has said almost the same thing to me once I told them exactly what it is I do. He said that as a wedding DJ, he often finds himself taking on multiple roles (coordinator, catering manager, etc.) because oftentimes there is not a desgnated wedding coordinator. He even told me a story about when he had to TELL the caterers when to pour the champagne for the wedding toast. Of course he knew when the toast was going to take place, but for some reason, the caterer did not, thus was not ready for it. You hired your DJ to play music and MC the event, not manage the catering staff.

He also said to me (something I have heard many times before) that unfortunately, people don't realize how valuable a wedding coordinator can be on the day of their wedding. They see it as an added expense, so they don't hire one, but then the bridal party and other vendors have to take on other roles. Isn't it valuable to you to have one person organizing it all on your wedding day so that everyone can be stress-free?

I've said this before and I'll say it again: I never try to push my services on people, but I do like to educate them. Most people planning a wedding have never done so before and have no idea what to expect or exactly how much goes into it until they are already knee-deep in the planning.

So the question is...do you want your DJ or photographer doing their jobs only or everyone else's too?
